Interviews and How to Prepare for them

Your Preparation

  • Create an uptodate professionally typed resume custom-made for the position to leave with the panel member.
  • Have someone with a critical eye proof the CV.
  • Develop answers to common questions about yourself (review your strengths and weaknesses).
  • Obtain permission beforehand from people you designate to utilise as reference.
  • Read about the community in which the post is located.
  • Take an interest about the company, what they do, their problems and future plans (annual reports, organizational charts, policies and procedures, staff manual, and position description of the post being interviewed for).

Preparing a Good resume

A curriculum vitae is your communication piece to the position sieving out committee, and it has to construct a statement that shows you and your candidacy. Since there is no standard way to prepare a CV, your resume must be able to indicate what you can do for the business and show your overall planning for the company. A CV should contain the following pieces of information but not necessarily in the order listed:

  • Your name, address, and telephone number(s).
  • Employment objective. Designate the class of post you are searching. The objective should be relevant to the position you are searching.
  • Education: school name and location, graduation date or dates of attendance, degree obtained or highest grade completed.
  • Experience: indicate post title, name and address of business, dates of employment, and description of position responsibilities.
  • Special skills possessed: computer skills, foreign languages, honors received, any achievement that is worth mentioning etc.
  • Indicate accessibility of references (usually upon request).

Prepare for the Day of the Interview

  • Dress for the position.
  • Be middle-of-the-road but not prudish.
  • Be clean. Check for missing buttons, dragging hems, soiled clothes, etc.
  • Avoid jingling jewellery or “new wave” fashion.
  • Come out looking refreshing and rested, interested and lively.
  • Arrive promptly for your appointment.
  • Take with you identification (social security card, drivers license).

Your Demeanour During the Interview or the Selling Game

  • Be positive about your qualifications.
  • Avoid judgmental comments about your historic jobs or bosses.
  • Memorise the names of your interviewers and their positioning within the organisation.
  • Suggest areas of the post to which you can apply historic experience and training.
  • Be creative in describing your skills and relating them to a new position.

Note that the business requires responses to the following interview questions:

  • Why are you here?
  • What would you do for the employer (special skills, background)?
  • How much would it cost to hire you?

The Curtain Call or Closing the Deal

Send a follow-up letter thanking the interviewers for their time and interest in you. Reiterate your interest in the position and the organisation.
